FAX machines are hardly top of the list of most wanted gadgets nowadays, but Burnley will thank their lucky stars that Steven Caldwell was able to get his hands on one on transfer deadline day to complete a late move from Sunderland.
The 26-year-old bought one on a whim several years ago but left it to gather dust at his home.
But it kicked into action on January 31, delivering a signed Clarets contract with just nine minutes to spare before the midnight cut-off point, and ending a day of uncertainty for the Scotland international.
"It was strange for myself and my family because obviously we weren't sure where we were going to be, because Coventry came in as well, so was it going to be Burnley, Sunderland, Coventry?," Caldwell said.
"I was in a stinking mood on deadline day, I thought that was me, it was over for the season, but suddenly the call came with a few minutes to go.
"I was praying my fax machine was going to work, I've used it twice in my life! I don't know why I got it, but I fancied it, and I'm thankful I got it now!"
