COLNE head into tomorrow night’s Pendle derby at Nelson on the back of their first North West Counties League Premier Division defeat in nearly four months.

Steve Cunningham’s side had won 10 in a row to rise to third in the table but that fantastic run, dating back to early December, was brought to a halt by Ashton Athletic on Tuesday night.

The Reds were behind after just two minute but were level by the fourth, through Joe Garvin.

Paul Watson restored the hosts’ lead eight minutes later and Adam Gilchrist made it 3-1 before the break.

Danny Boyle halved the deficit on 52 minutes but Colne couldn’t find a leveller and slip to fourth.

At the other end of the table Bacup & Rossendale Borough were beaten 2-1 at West Didsbury & Chorlton and remain bottom of the pile.

Brent Peters’ side trailed 2-0 after second half goals from Tre Baldwin-Willis and Mark Rogers. Matty Bryan pulled one back five minutes from time but it was too little too late. Borough are five points from safety ahead of a weekend clash with Bootle.

In the Vanarama Conference North, Chorley moved to the cusp of the play-offs after a 3-1 comeback victory over Leamington.

The Magpies fell behind early on but two goals in a minute just before half-time put them in front at the break.

Jordan Goddard put the home side ahead midway through the first half before Adam Roscoe and Chris Doyle turned it around. And Andy Teague sealed the points for Chorley when he netted the third on 65 minutes.

The result leaves Garry Flitcroft’s side sixth, outside the play-offs on goal difference and with two games in hand in many of the sides above them. Chorley host Tamworth on Saturday.

Elsewhere Ramsbottom lost 1-0 at home to Barwell in the Evo Stik League Premier Division.

Dominic Brennan’s 27th minute strike was enough to separate the sides.
