BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche was left bewildered that his side were not awarded a first-half penalty in their 2-0 defeat at Southampton this afternoon.
Dyche felt the Clarets should have had a penalty when George Boyd was felled by Jose Fonte when the score was 0-0.
Shane Long put Southampton ahead before half time, and a Jason Shackell own goal then ended the contest.
Dyche also pointed to other penalty decisions that have gone against his side recently – with Sam Vokes aggrieved not to have been awarded a spot kick against Swansea City.
“It was impossible – or certainly very surprising - how we didn’t get a penalty in the first half, I’ve seen it back,” he said.
“I don’t mention it too often but that’s the third one in a matter of weeks that we haven’t had.
“I ask my players to not simulate - I must be the greenest manager in the world looking at that.
“Beyond that I thought we had four key chances, certainly three absolute key chances and didn’t take them.”
Southampton substitute goalkeeper Kelvin Davis, who played with Dyche at Luton Town, made some key saves.
“They were good saves from the keeper but I played with Kelvin a long time ago and they are saves a keeper of his calibre would expect to make,” Dyche said.
“I was disappointed with the finishing today because at half time we were scratching our heads how we were 1-0 down.”
