OLYMPIC medalist Samantha Murray is hoping to re-create the atmosphere of her London games success when the Modern Pentathlon European Championships come to Great Britain later this year.

Murray took silver in front of the home fans three years ago and has since added the World Championship title to her collection when she triumphed in Poland last year.

And the 25-year-old from Clitheroe is hopeful of more success when the Euros take place in her training base of Bath in August.

“From my experience in London I know it will be a fabulous occasion for British athletes to compete on home soil in front of friends, families and supporters, and that’s always an advantage,” said Murray, who has been rested from the GB team for the second round of the World Cup series in Egypt which is currently taking place having won the opening round in America.

“It will be a fantastic opportunity for our sport to harness the interest generated by the 2012 Olympics and by the performance of the British men and women there.”

The championships, which will run from August 18-23, are one of the earliest opportunities to qualify for next year’s Olympic Games in Rio and Murray looks set to vie for one of the eight Olympic qualifying slots on offer at the Championships, which will take place at the University of Bath.

And GB Performance Director Jan Bartu also hopes to make the most of home advantage.

He said: “I have been working here in Bath since 1998, before the Sports Training Village was built, and it has always been my dream to stage a big event here. It is quite magical for me and my coaching team to finally realise this ambition”.

Tickets for the championships will be proved from just £6 for adults and £1 for under-18s. For more details visit www.pentathlongb.org/euros2015
