GEORGE IV powered their way to the Burnley Miners Sunday League Premier League Cup success, overpowering Prairie Athletic 4-0 in a one-sided final at the Arbories.
Luke Thompson set the tone early on, converting a second minute chance as George IV grabbed an early lead in front of a healthy crowd at Padiham’s home base.
While Prairie were limited to mainly half chances, their goalkeeper, Aaron Bond, was kept busy at the other end, saving on-target efforts from lively attacking pair, Thompson and Andy Arkwright.
Still, with only a slender one goal advantage at half-time, Prairie remained in the hunt, despite George IV seemingly boasting the extra firepower.
However, there was no way back for Prairie when George IV went through the gears in the second half, Thompson adding to his earlier strike with a well taken finish.
Andy Arkwright then struck twice, including the goal of the game in the final minute as George IV celebrated their first silverware of the season.
The final was kindly sponsored by Burnley Veterans Players’ Association.
