BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer admits he is spoilt for choice up front with a ‘frustrated’ Rudy Gestede desperate to return to his starting line-up.

After his FA Cup heroics against Liverpool, when he led the line superbly, Gestede started the league wins over Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic on the bench.

But, unlike against Bolton, the 15-goal striker was prevented from coming on against Charlton after Rovers lost three players to injury.

Bowyer said: “Rudy was close to coming on Saturday but then we very quickly got those injuries so that stopped that one.

“You’ve got a very frustrated man sat on the bench because he wants to play as many games as he can.

“It’s a great problem for us at this moment in time and that’s the value of the squad.

“It’s not the biggest of squads but we have got some quality and some competition in there.”

With Gestede being given a chance to recharge his batteries, Chris Brown has started the last two games up front alongside leading marksman Jordan Rhodes.

And while Brown is yet to open his account for the club, Bowyer said: “Browny doesn’t get enough credit for the job that he does. He’s been phenomenal since he broke into the team.”

Bowyer was also full of praise for the 16-goal Rhodes who, fresh from his double strike against Charlton and his last-gasp winner against Bolton, has been called into the Scotland squad for the first time since November 2013.

Bowyer said: “I’m delighted for him, he’s in a rich vein of form and his goals on Saturday were two fantastic finishes.

“He can go up the road after two more games with us.”
