CHRIS Brown says the unwavering belief Gary Bowyer has shown in his players is one of the key reasons why Blackburn Rovers have put their season firmly back on track.

Rovers moved within eight points of the play-off places on Saturday with an impressive 3-1 win at in-form Charlton Athletic that has left them feeling ‘seven foot tall’.

And should they beat Brentford at Ewood Park tomorrow night then the gap to the top six could be down to five points.

That gap stood at 15 points just three weeks ago after Rovers suffered a late home loss to Norwich City.

But since then they have taken a point at table-topping Bournemouth and beaten Sheffield Wednesday, Bolton Wanderers and Charlton – as well as holding Liverpool to a superb FA Cup draw.

Brown believes Rovers boss Bowyer’s faith in the squad he has built has been a big factor behind their reversal in form.

“Even when we had a bit of a dip the gaffer always believed in the squad and told us to keep going even when others were probably thinking our season had come to a bit of a standstill,” said the striker, who produced another selfless display in the victory at the Valley.

“We have meetings three or four times a week and it’s just been drummed into us by the staff to keep going and to keep believing – he keeps telling all of us how good we are.

“It’s easy to take your foot off the gas when you drop down, and it’s natural sometimes, but it hasn’t been like that at all.

“We’ve had a lot of meetings after games when it hasn’t gone so well and he’s given us a kick up the backside but we have kept going and have kept working hard and now we’ve put ourselves in a good position.”

Injury-ravaged Rovers’ third win of the season over Charlton came in spite of the fact they lost Craig Conway, Lee Williamson and Doneil Henry.

“It was unbelievable, every two minutes there seemed to be bodies everywhere lying on the pitch,” said Brown, who volunteered to play centre-back after Henry went off.

“But everyone rolled their sleeves up and they are the games you enjoy.

“It was a great feeling in the changing room afterwards and everyone feels seven foot tall.

“That’s what happens when you get a couple of results. Everything’s positive and it’s a great place to be at the minute.”

With 10 players currently on the sidelines Bowyer is set to be down to the bare bones tomorrow.

But Brown insists the players who are still standing are not feeling fatigued going into what will be Rovers’ 12th game in the last 38 days.

“Everybody is saying it must be tough playing Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday but it’s not, you get battle-hardened and you enjoy it,” said Brown.

“You want to be playing as when you get on a bit of a run it’s the best feeling in the world.

“If you’re losing, it’s the worst thing in the world but the lads in there are fresh and ready to go and the lads who are coming in to replace the injured players are just as good to fill in.”
