BURNLEY boss Sean Dyche said new signing Fredrik Ulvestad had fitted in to his squad straight away - but he admitted the 22-year-old is unlikely to feature in the Premier League this season.

The Norwegian midfielder signed on a free transfer this week having spent time training with the Clarets.

He was out of contract having left previous club Aalesunds at the end of the Norwegian season last November and arrives at a time when Burnley are short of options in midfield, with Dean Marney absent through a cruciate knee ligament injury.

But Dyche insists that wasn’t the reason Ulvestad was brought in, and that he had been flagged up as one to watch by Burnley’s new overseas scouting network.

“We have been light in midfield with the injury to Dean Marney, although that wasn’t the reason Freddie came in, because if it was he would have to operate immediately and we think there is more to come going forward,” said Dyche.

“You can’t put a timeline on it, if he’s needed this season and we think he’s ready then that’s different, but he’s just in the building a couple of weeks so we’ll see how he continues to get used to being here.

“He’s a player that we had the fortune of him working with us for two weeks.

“We were lucky enough to get him in, he wanted to come in. It’s a good way of doing business because we get to have a look at him, he gets to have a look at us.

“He fitted in straight away. That was the key thing.

“Sometimes players who are with you are not part of the group and they look that way, but he fitted in straight away.”
