GARY Bowyer has remained level-headed throughout his 22-month reign as Blackburn Rovers boss – and he is not about to change as his side gear up for another strong finish.

Bowyer refused to write off the season after Rovers suffered a disappointing dip in form either side of Christmas.

And he will not go overboard now that they appear to have put their campaign back on track.

Rovers head to in-form Charlton Athletic tomorrow on the back of a four-match unbeaten run that has seen them move within 11 points of the play-offs and remain within one win of a place in the Wembley FA Cup semi-finals.

But Bowyer said: “We’ve tried to stay calm and level all the way through.

“We know that life in the Championship is never plain sailing and if you look at the top six now and how tight it is, and how many different leaders there have been, and all these crazy reports you hear about people moaning about different people’s teams and they’re sat in the top six? It’s madness.

“So we’ve tried to stay level and it’s the same at this moment in time. We’ve got to keep calm, keep our feet on the ground but at the same time remind ourselves of what we’ve been doing very well over the last couple of weeks.”

What Rovers, who have lost just one of their last nine matches in all competitions, have been doing well is defending better.

They kept their third clean sheet in their last four outings when winning Wednesday’s derby clash at home to Bolton Wanderers 1-0.

“I’m massively pleased with the clean sheets, especially given the quality opposition we’ve kept them against and given the fact that it’s not been a settled back four,” said Bowyer.

“There’s always had to be one change or maybe two changes so full credit to the players because they are working ever so hard at it.

“And a clean sheet comes from the front and you only have to see that from Wednesday night and how hard Jordan Rhodes and Chris Brown worked. It’s a team effort.”

Rovers follow tomorrow’s trip to the Valley with home matches against Brentford on Tuesday and Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

They then make their way to Roses rivals Leeds United on Easter Saturday before returning to Ewood Park for their FA Cup quarter-final replay with Liverpool.

The Rovers boss added: “We want to finish the season as strongly as we possibly can.

“We’ve got a wonderful quarter-final replay to look forward to but before then we’ve got four very difficult league games.

“But they are winnable given the nature of the Championship and the momentum that we’ve got at this moment in time.”
