FIT-AGAIN Burnley midfielder Matthew Taylor stepped up his comeback by completing 70 minutes in the development squad’s 1-1 draw with Fleetwood Town, in which first team striker Marvin Sordell was on the scoresheet.

Clarets’ summer signing Taylor, who has been sidelined with an Achilles problem since August, built on his 45-minute run-out against Wigan last Friday.

The 33-year-old former Portsmouth and West Ham star played alongside Steven Hewitt and Cameron Howieson in midfield at Manchester City’s former Carrington training ground, now used by Bury.

Taylor will now aim to be involved in Burnley’s vital end of season run-in.

Not one shot on target was registered in an uneventful first half, with both sides struggling to retain possession on an uneven surface.

There was little to impress watching former Clarets Graham Alexander, who is manager of Fleetwood, and his chief scout Steve Davis, until the Cod Army broke the deadlock on the hour mark with a header from a right wing cross.

Winger Bradley Jackson went close to a quick equaliser, but could only find the side netting following good work by Sordell and Ntumba Massanka.

Sordell eventually levelled 12 minutes from time with a stunning 25-yard strike.

There were chances for either side to win it as the clock ticked down.

A decisive touch evaded Fleetwood as a ball rolled across the goal-line.

And then Burnley almost nicked it with the last kick of the game when Howieson tried to replicate Sordell’s earlier effort, but saw his strike whistle over the crossbar.
