FORMER Manchester City youngster Kieran Trippier insists Burnley will have no fear as they prepare to welcome the defending champions to Turf Moor.

Manuel Pellegrini’s City side are in town for the Saturday evening kick-off, but while they are seeking to make up ground on Chelsea at the top of the table, the Clarets have a desperate need for points at the bottom.

Burnley are 19th in the table now, three points adrift of safety, with City just the latest in a run of tough fixtures that also features games against Champions League hopefuls Southampton, Tottenham and Arsenal after Saturday.

But the Clarets came from 2-0 down to claim a most unlikely point at the Etihad Stadium over Christmas, and Trippier is looking to go one better when he faces his former team this weekend.

"Manchester City will provide us with more tough opposition but every game in this league is tough,” said the 24-year-old right-back.

“This is where we want to be and that's why we fought so hard last year to get here. Hopefully we can stay here.

"We don't fear anybody and we didn't fear them at their place when we were 2-0 down at half-time. We came back and got a great result so we'll be pushing to get the three points at our place.”

On December 28 City were 2-0 up after 33 minutes thanks to goals from David Silva and Fernandinho.

But George Boyd turned in Danny Ings’ shot two minutes after the break, before Ashley Barnes lashed home a dramatic equaliser nine minutes from time.

It was an enjoyable result for Trippier and his fellow former City team-mate Ben Mee.

The pair played together in City’s 2008 FA Youth Cup winning side before being re-united at Turf Moor.

Given the Clarets’ precarious league position the visit of City could well be billed as their biggest game of the season, but Trippier, who has started all 28 league games so far this campaign, is keen to play down the importance of one game over any other.

“I think every game has been a massive one for us.” he said. “We want to get more wins on the board before the end of the season.”

For Burnley’s defenders it is yet another test against some of the league’s finest attacking talents, having come up against players such as Angel di Maria, Wayne Rooney, Eden Hazard, Diego Costa, Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling in recent weeks.

But Trippier is adamant that it is exciting to be facing the City megastars, and that it won’t inhibit the way the Clarets approach the game.

"It makes it more exciting for everybody,” he said. “Chelsea had Hazard, Diego Costa and Fabregas. It'll be no different coming up against Sergio Aguero or Yaya Toure.

“They're obviously quality opposition but we'll take them on."
