GARY Bowyer has called on the Ewood Park faithful to recreate the Anfield atmosphere in tonight’s derby clash with Bolton Wanderers.

Bowyer believes the support his Blackburn Rovers side received from the stands in Sunday’s FA Cup quarter-final with Liverpool helped them secure a shock 0-0 draw.

And the Rovers boss said: “Ewood should be rocking given the amount that Bolton will bring and given our fans should be buoyed by what they saw on Sunday.

“I thought the away following was magnificent, the noise they made was tremendous and we need them to do the same again on Wednesday.

“If they can, it will lift the players tremendously.”

Bolton won the reverse fixture between the teams 2-1 after Rovers wasted a series of gilt-edged opportunities either side of Josh King’s opener.

It is a result that still grates with Bowyer.

He said: “I think on reflection, if you look at the whole season, it’s the one when the disappointment really hits home.

“Our level of performance and the type of football we played was absolutely fantastic.

“We totally dominated and we should have won the game but we weren’t clinical enough and ruthless enough in front of goal.

“We’ve got to make sure we are on Wednesday.”

Victory tonight would move Rovers, who finished last season 12 games unbeaten, within 11 points of the play-offs with 10 matches to play.

Bowyer said: “We know we’ve got to play some of the teams above us, so that gives us hope we can claw the points gap back, and we can also take confidence from the way we finished last season.

“There’s a feel about the place that is very similar to that.”
