BURNLEY are remaining at Gawthorpe during their 10-day break from Premier League action, although Sean Dyche hasn’t ruled out taking his squad away at some point during the closing months of the campaign.

The Clarets enjoyed a free weekend for the third time in the past seven weeks because of their FA Cup third round exit at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.

While some Premier League clubs have used the breaks to head overseas for warm-weather training, Burnley have remained local, with only a trip to Catterick races in January the highlight.

But the Clarets have suffered a defeat at Sunderland and a draw at Chelsea on returning to action from their two previous breaks.

And while the gap between fixtures does give Dyche extra time to try and solve Burnley’s set-piece woes, he admits it is sometimes better to get straight back into a game.

“You can look at it either way,” he said. “Does it help or hinder?

“I think the result at the end of the breaks is when people decide, but it’s not always the case.

“The focus remains clear, a bit of rest, mixed with some training and some tactical work. Then you get ready to go again.

“I try and simplify it for the team to operate. I want them to operate with clear-minded focus.

“We work in that manner.”

While Burnley have remained at their Gawthorpe training ground this time, Dyche has not ruled out taking his players away later in the season.

The Clarets have another two-week gap at the end of March due to the international break when the likes of Danny Ings, Michael Keane, Stephen Ward, Sam Vokes and Matt Gilks are likely to be away with their national sides.

That is the only free weekend left this season, with a visit to Goodison Park to face Everton scheduled on the weekend of the FA Cup semi-finals on April 18/19.

“We probably will look to do that,” the Clarets chief said of taking his squad away for a break.

“We did that last year, we thought it was appropriate at the time, so we probably will look to do something like that.

“I don’t think we’ll be jetting off on a private aeroplane to go to Dubai, but we’ll try and get the players away for a few days.”
