STAND-IN Blackburn Rovers skipper Matt Kilgallon insists he has not had time to focus on his Blackburn Rovers future.

Instead the centre-back is concentrating on maintaining the fantastic form he has shown after winning his place back in Gary Bowyer’s side.

Kilgallon has been a virtual ever present since Rovers boss Bowyer recalled him into his starting line-up at the start of the year.

And he saved his best displays of the season for last Wednesday’s impressive 2-1 Championship win over Sheffield Wednesday and Sunday’s superb FA Cup quarter-final 0-0 draw with Liverpool.

Kilgallon’s impeccable performances at Hillsborough and Anfield have led Rovers supporters to call for him to be tied down to a new deal.

The 31-year-old is one of seven senior players out of contract in the summer along with Paul Robinson, Lee Williamson, Chris Taylor, David Dunn, Luke Varney and Josh King.

But former Leeds United, Sheffield United and Sunderland defender Kilgallon is focusing mainly on Rovers’ big FA Cup replay and their attempt to cut the gap on the play-off places.

He said: “I’m just head down and playing as many games as I can at the moment.

“I haven’t even thought about it (the summer) because of the cup run and because of the amount of games we’ve had.

“I haven’t had time but I’m sure I’ll speak to the gaffer or whoever but why wouldn’t I want to (stay) because I’m enjoying it.

“I’m sure something will be said and if you’re playing well hopefully you will get rewarded.”

And asked whether he is playing as well as at any point in his career, he said: “I’d say so, yes.

“When you enjoy it, it feels great, and I’d say it’s up there with when I was at Sheffield United.

“I’m really loving it.”

There was a real buzz around Brockhall yesterday as Kilgallon and his team-mates returned to training in preparation for tomorrow’s big Championship clash at home to rivals Bolton Wanderers.

Rovers’ on-loan Bolton duo Alex Baptiste and Jay Spearing will be ineligible to face their parent club.

And Baptiste’s absence means on loan West Ham United youngster Doneil Henry is likely to partner Kilgallon in the heart of the defence unless captain Grant Hanley recovers from the leg injury that has ruled him out of the last three matches.

Meanwhile, reports have linked Jordan Rhodes with Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City.

But Rovers have not received any offers for the 13-goal striker who was left on the bench against Liverpool, meaning he has played only 13 minutes of their FA Cup campaign.
