COLNE’S Shayne Singleton suffered his first professional defeat as he lost his WBC international silver welterweight title on Saturday night – but Chorley’s Jack Catterall extended his unbeaten run to 11 fights.
Singleton had been pitted against Birmingham’s Sam Eggington in Hull in what was being described by many as a 50/50 fight.

The East Lancashire fighter was making the first defence of the WBC international silver welterweight he won against Laszlo Fazekas 11 months ago, and went into the bout with a record of 20 wins from 20 professional bouts.
But the former English champion found Eggington’s power hard to deal with and was knocked down in the second round after being drawn into the sort of war his trainer Karl Ince had wanted him to avoid.
Singleton recovered from the first knockdown of his career to fight on but was floored twice more in the fifth round before referee Victor Loughlin opted to stop the contest.
There was better news for Catterall, though, as the Chorley man defeated Argentinian Cesar David Inalef in Liverpool on Friday night to claim the vacant WBO intercontinental light welterweight title.
Catterall, 21, is being tipped for big things after an impressive start to his professional career and made it 11 wins out of 11 as he put Inalef down in the second round before claiming a fifth-round stoppage.
