RUDY Gestede admits Blackburn Rovers are now ‘so close’ to Wembley - as they wait to find out their potential FA Cup semi-final opponents tonight.

Rovers set up a quarter-final replay against Liverpool at Ewood Park after a 0-0 draw at Anfield yesterday and they are in the hat for the last-four draw, which takes place at around 9.45pm tonight.

The draw will be shown live on BBC One immediately after Manchester United’s clash with Arsenal.

Tim Sherwood’s Aston Villa are the only club already through to the semi finals, with Reading also set to host Bradford City in a replay.

Gestede would love the opportunity to play in a Wembley semi-final and admits that yesterday’s draw at Anfield has increased the chances of that happening.

“We want to play at Wembley now, we are so close we cannot believe it but we have the replay to play,” said the Rovers striker.

“It’s still on and we have the chance to play at home, so it’s going to be a different game at home on a different pitch.

“Wembley is still there so we fight for this.”

Gestede impressed in a lone striker’s role for Rovers, and Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel was forced off early on after being flattened by the forward.

“When he landed I think he hit the floor very hard and was unconscious for a while so I called the medical team straight away because his eyes weren’t there, he was lost,” Gestede said.

“But I asked (Adam) Lallana at half-time how Martin Skrtel was and he said he was fine, everything is checked and he’s okay.

“It was a very big performance from us. We played against a big team with top class players and we managed to get a draw.

“Everyone was fighting for each other.”
