BURNLEY have to treat their remaining 10 Premier League games as ‘cup finals’ if they want to save their season, according to winger George Boyd.

After defeat to Liverpool last Wednesday the Clarets are 19th in the Premier League, three points from safety.

And the task gets no easier for Sean Dyche’s side with champions Manchester City next to visit Turf Moor, followed by games against Champions League hopefuls Southampton, Tottenham and Arsenal.

Boyd is convinced they can stay up though, despite that tough run, and he believes if they look to go out and enjoy the final 10 games then they could yet drag themselves to safety and a second season in the top flight.

“We’re excited, this is what we’re here for, we’re still in it, we’ve got a great chance,” the 29-year-old said.

“You have to be excited, you can’t let the nerves get the better of you. We’ve got 10 cup finals and we need to go out and enjoy every one.”

Boyd had his first experience of the Premier League with Hull last season before his £3million move to the Clarets on September 1.

He hasn’t missed a league game since making his debut in the 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace and has become a key figure in Dyche’s side for his incredible work rate and distance covered stats, and he believes the fitness of this team can only be advantageous during the run-in.

"I think it's definitely an advantage, we're the fittest team in the league and we're getting stronger when other teams are tiring,” said the player dubbed the ‘running man’.

“I've no doubt it will have an impact on games because we'll be running over teams.”

The Clarets may face four of the top seven in their next four games, but crucially three of those are at home.

Boyd believes that could help them secure an unlikely win on the way, and he wants the fans to play their part in creating an intimidating Turf Moor atmosphere.

“We’ve got three of the next four at home, we’ve got to make sure our home performances are good and we try and get a win at home,” he said.

“With the crowd behind us there’s no reason why we can’t get a win.”

City may be the reigning champions but Burnley have already taken points off them this season, coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at the Etihad Stadium between Christmas and New Year, with Boyd starting the comeback early in the second half.

And he believes that could help them when Manuel Pellegrini’s side arrive at Turf Moor on Saturday.

“We’ll go into every game thinking we can win,” he said.

“We did really well at Man City away so we’ll be confident from that at home. We can beat anyone on our day.

“It will be in the back of their minds that we’re a team that doesn’t get mucked around and we can use that to our advantage.”
