EAST Lancashire based cycling club Clayton Velo promoted the 49th running of their Clayton Spring Classic Road Race held over almost 60 miles in bitterly cold conditions at Bashall Eaves near Clitheroe.

First past the chequered flag was Peter Williams of the One Pro Cycling squad with his team also placing riders in second and third.

Our best placed East Lancs rider was last year’s event winner Simon Wilson of Padiham in ninth place in his new Team Polypipe kit while Rebecca Rimmington, riding for the new IKON-Mazda Women’s Race Team, was the only lady finisher.

At a Bolton-by-Bowland event organiser Adrian Watts had over 100 entries for the Rossendale Road Club time trial on a hilly course of just over 10 miles.

Fastest rider was Adam Hartley of PH-MAS Cycling with a time of 24minutes 7seconds.

The North Lancs Road Club placed Mark Haydock in seventh in 25mins 53secs while other road club members took awards with Jan Scotchford fastest lady in 30mins 55secs, Dave Hargreaves fastest 60+ in 28mins 42secs and Harry Haseley fastest 70+ in 34mins 40secs.

This event was the first of 22 selected for the 2015 Lakes and Lancs Sporting Courses Competition (SPOCO) with the Rossendale Road Club co-ordinating the series across the North West.

More than140 entries have been received for the North Lancs Time Trial Association 10 mile on Saturday from Barton on the A6 with the first rider off at 2pm.

On Sunday the Circuit of Pendle time trial will be held from Whalley where event secretary Peter Briscoe hosts nearly 70 riders which include course record holder Mark Holton of Drag2Zero and ex-course record holder Gethin Butler of Preston Wheelers.

The start is 9am with HQ at Oakhill College Whalley.
