GEORGE Boyd believes the Premier League elite hate playing Burnley because they aren’t used to one of the smaller teams getting in their faces.

The Clarets have already secured draws at Chelsea and Man City as they prepare for a visit to Anfield tonight to face the Premier League’s in-form side in Liverpool.

They were also unlucky to come away from Manchester United with nothing following a vibrant attacking performance last month.

Boyd believes Burnley’s high pressing game and the fact they have gone to attack almost every team they have faced has helped them secure some shock results on the road.

“Teams aren't used to it, Chelsea hated it.” he said.

“The top teams are used to having it their own way, passing it around at the back, and we're pressing high and not giving them much time on the ball and it works in our favour.

“It's unheard of, teams playing two strikers in this division against the top sides, we just go out and play our game and not worry about the other team.

“No one expects us to win, so we might as well go out and play our own game and what will be, will be.”

Boyd is one of the few players in Burnley’s squad to have played at Anfield, having featured for half an hour as a substitute for Hull City in their 2-0 defeat there last season.

And the 29-year-old thinks the fact that games at Anfield, Old Trafford, Stamford Bridge and the Etihad are first experiences of those stadiums for so many of the Clarets young squad is also helping them upset the odds.

“I came on as a sub there last season late on, but this is why you get promoted and play in the Premier League to play at grounds like Anfield,” he said.

“Not many of us have played at this level before and we're able to just go out and enjoy it, there's no pressure on us, apart from what we put on ourselves, we just go out and try and get the three points.

“You can either be overawed or try and embrace it and the mindset of this squad is to embrace it and enjoy it.

"That comes from the top - every team talk is positive, to express yourself and go out and enjoy the occasion.

"I think we went to Arsenal and maybe sat off more than we usually do and it didn't really work, so we've played our own game and it's working brilliantly.”

Liverpool were 1-0 winners at Turf Moor on Boxing Day and have been in superb form since, having lost just twice, in cup matches, in their past 20 games.

But Boyd insists Burnley can take confidence from the Christmas clash between the two sides, which they were unfortunate to lose.

"They're on a great run, with players in form, but when we played them at home, I'd have been disappointed with a point, never mind losing the game, so we'll take confidence from that and hopefully cause them some problems,” he said.
