I AM happy that the transfer window has shut and we’ve still got Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes firing for us.
Make no mistake to lose one or both of them would have been a big loss as it is very, very hard to replace the goals they bring.
MORE TOP STORIES:
I understand the club has to continue to cuts costs but at the same if you want to show ambition you have got to hold on to your best players.
That’s why Blackburn were right to stick to the price tags they put on the heads of Gestede and Rhodes.
I know it can be upsetting to players when they see a move blocked, like Gestede did with Crystal Palace, but at the end of the day the club has got a job to do.
And in Blackburn’s case that is to try and get back in the top league.
In situations like Gestede’s a club can always say to a player that if a club comes in for you the summer, with the right fee, then they will look to do a deal.
But by then you could be on your way up to the Premier League and the interested club may be on their way down.
Here’s hoping that’s the case with Rovers and they’ve certainly got a better chance of cutting the gap to the play-offs with Rhodes and Gestede in their side.
Rudy and any other player in the squad now just have to clear their heads and get out there every week and give it their best shot and hopefully that will be enough to get the club into the top six.
And say, for example, Rudy does that, it will only be good for him, as clubs will still be looking at him as an option for next season.
But for now we can concentrate on the football again.
With Fulham not exactly setting the heather on fire in the league Saturday was an ideal opportunity for Rovers to get three points, so to get them was brilliant.
At this stage of the season, when you’re trying to chase down the teams above you, it doesn’t matter how you get them, it’s just about putting three points on the board.
No-one remembers the performance when you lose.
And those three points sets us up for a really big match at Watford this weekend.
Every team you play in the top 10 in this league is a big match because they are all teams who want to be in that top six.
One point doesn’t particularly help you, it just prolongs the agony, but three points can really make a big difference in the table.
And if we can get them at Vicarage Road it would really put us back in the mix.
