THERE is no point keeping an unhappy player so if we get an acceptable offer for Rudy Gestede then he can go.

I understood the situation the club were in before Saturday’s game at Wigan.

If Rudy had played and picked up an injury then it could have ended up costing the club a lot of money.

I know he is our top scorer and I know everybody is looking for strikers who can score goals but if we can get £4-6million for Rudy it would represent very good business by Blackburn Rovers.

You have to remember just over a year ago he was a £200,000 striker who could not get a game for Cardiff City in the Premier League.

If we do get the fee that we want then no doubt the Bluebirds will be kicking themselves.

The money we receive could help get the club’s debt down, if not by much, but it’s not like Gary Bowyer will be able to spend any of it given the embargo.

The manager will have to make do with loan signings but even if Rudy does go Gary will still have options.

He tried Chris Brown up there alongside Jordan Rhodes on Saturday while Josh King came on.

Gary could also go back to playing Jordan up front on his own and push Tom Cairney further upfield and play Craig Conway and Ben Marshall on the wings. Or he could even bring David Dunn back in to play just behind Jordan.

So, as I say, he does have options and we should not get too down if Rudy leaves.

But no doubt supporters were not feeling too good after the 1-1 draw at Wigan. Let’s face it, it wasn’t the best.

It was particularly disappointing because it was the type of game we expect to win and when you don’t, it does get everybody down.

Not for the first time this season we looked a different side in each half.

I’ve said it many times in this column that we need to get both right, and that we can’t always try and hold on to a lead.

Now we’ve got a break from Championship action with the FA Cup tie at home to Swansea City on Saturday.

If I was the manager I would be playing my strongest possible team.

I know the league is our bread and butter and takes priority, but this is a one-off game and a real challenge for the players.

Swansea are a Premier League team and this is a chance for the Blackburn lads to show they can get close to them and match them. If we get our minds right I believe it is a winnable game.

Swansea will be licking their wounds after a 5-0 defeat to Chelsea so why not rub salt into them?
