THERE is no doubt Blackburn Rovers have to become more solid and cut out the individual mistakes that are costing them too many goals.

But you cannot just point your finger at the centre halves, you’ve got to look at the whole team.

I’m a great believer that you have to defend from the front and when you are conceding the amount of goals Blackburn are, you’ve got to see if your frontmen are pressing and if your midfielders are letting players get in behind them.

If your frontmen and midfielders are working hard then it makes it a very easy job for a defender and then there should be no excuse for individual mistakes.

It looked like a mixture of both against Brentford on Saturday.

That’s two defeats on the run now and it’s very, very important to get back to winning ways as quickly as possible.

It was not too long ago, don’t forget, that Blackburn were sitting in the top six, on a nine-game unbeaten run, and feeling unbeatable.

But there’s no doubt about it, you can start feeling the opposite the longer that a losing run goes on.

Yes it’s only two games but Blackburn need to flush it out of their system as soon as possible and the only way you can really do that is by getting some wins on the board.

The game at home to Charlton on Saturday is the first of three in nine days and it’s going to be a really important period.

It will be interesting to see how Gary Bowyer lines up against the Addicks.

I’ve got no problem with managers playing different systems like Gary does.

You don’t want to be a team that is too predictable, a team that when the opposition scout you, they already know everything about you.

Don’t get me wrong, look at Burnley, they’ve proved you can have success by playing the same team week in and week out.

But Gary seems to like to keep other managers guessing and that means we might have 4-4-2 one week or 4-5-1 the next.

There’s nothing wrong with that and at the end of the day the most important thing is playing the system that your players understand and can adapt to so that they perform the best.

And for me Blackburn have looked better and got better results when they have had two men attacking up front.

Could Jordan Rhodes have any complaints about being left out against Brentford?

Probably not, as his form has not been as good as he would have hoped.

But hopefully it’s given Jordan a chance to recharge his batteries and get him firing again because, as I say, these next three games are going to be important so they will need him.
