I SPEAK to Jake Nurse quite often and all the lads have been in touch him since his injury against Manchester Phoenix.

It’s going to take a bit of time for him but whether it’s a week or two months we will be right behind him, the most important thing is he gets himself better.

I’ve spoken to him a few times and he is still having problems with his vision and he said he is getting headaches from squinting.

We’re a close knit team so when something like this happens we are looking out for each other.

Aside from Jake it’s been good to get a few injuries fixed without a game for the last two weeks, but from my point of view it is never too good to go too long without a game.

It is just one of those things though and there isn’t much you can do about it, it’s just unfortunate that the league has altered this year and there aren’t as many teams in it as there was last year, which obviously means less games, but it can’t be helped.

You have just got to get on with it though, I think momentum is key in hockey and by not playing for two weeks we don’t want to lose any of that.

Usually our season is pretty full on, we often have two games every weekend so the games are coming thick and fast. Some lads like to have the break to relax a little and go out with friends and family and some would rather keep playing, but during a season we don’t often get the chance to go out so it is nice.

We’ve still been practising and it is a chance to work on a few things and have a good look at the next game, which is Solway at home this weekend. There’s a few things we’ve identified that we can work on and look to improve in our own game.

Any game against Solway is a big game. We beat them last time out up there and I’m pretty confident we can get the better of them on our rink this weekend.

We struggled to take points from Solway last year and that probably cost us any chance of winning the title. Come the end of the season we were eight to ten points behind them, and had we taken some points of them in the matches we played then things could have been different but it wasn’t to be.

This season we knew they were games that we would have to win and so far we have done that.

We can’t just focus our attentions on beating our big rivals though. Sometimes in the past we have been guilty of taking our eye off the ball against teams we would expect to beat and slipping up, which is points we can’t afford to be dropping. There’s been a couple of occasions we have drawn with Manchester and we should be winning those games, as we have done this year.
