BLACKBURN Rovers boss Gary Bowyer has missed out on the Championship manager of the month award to Bournemouth’s Eddie Howe.

And Bowyer has joked there was no point him even being nominated for the prize given Howe’s record in October.

The former Burnley boss led the table-topping Cherries to four wins out of four including a remarkable club record 8-0 victory at Birmingham City.

Bowyer was also unbeaten during the month, leading Rovers to two wins and two draws, but he recognised he and his fellow nominees, Huddersfield Town’s Chris Powell and Fulham’s Kit Symons, never stood a chance.

“Eddie Howe has played four and won four so why not just give it to him?” said Bowyer, who was speaking before Howe was announced as the winner of the prize.

“Why nominate anybody else? Why waste time? Just get on with it, ‘well done, Eddie, you’ve done brilliantly’.

“Seriously, though, he’s producing a fantastic brand of football, he’s got a good squad, and he’s just won four out of four, so he deserves it.”

Bournemouth have made it a double after their striker Callum Wilson was named the Championship’s player of the month for October.

Bowyer admitted he was surprised that his in-form winger Ben Marshall was not nominated for the award for the second month running.

Marshall, along with Norwich City striker Cameron Jerome and Blackpool goalkeeper Joe Lewis, missed out on September’s prize to Ipswich Town left back Tyrone Mings.

Bowyer said: “Cameron Jerome scored five in five and didn’t win it.

“I don’t know how these things get picked but a defender got it! Listen, I was a defender so that’s why I can say that.

“A defender got player of the month yet a striker got five in five and Marshy did what he did in the month too.”
