TOM Carne was victorious in race one as he sported Neil Hodgson’s famous number 100 in the ‘Race Of The Year’ event at Mallory Park on Sunday.
Run by the East Midlands Racing Association, the Leicestershire event is one of the biggest on the racing calendar and offers prize money of £20,000 across six classes including Superbikes, Supersport, Superstock and 125s.
The 21-year-old recently completed his season in the Tristar Triple Challenge before being invited to ride in two 10-lap 125cc races at Mallory Park – linking up again with Mark Hodgson, who is the father of former world Superbike champion Neil Hodgson and who was Carne’s mentor in the British 125cc Championship in 2011.
Carne competed on a RCD Motorsport bike using Neil’s famous number 100 and qualified in second place in race one.
A lightning start saw him take the lead and he went on to secure victory, despite having not raced a 125cc bike for a year.
In race two, the track was wet with a dry line and Carne struggled with grip but still secured third place in his final race of 2014.
