Rossendale U15s 7 Lymm U15s 32
Rossendale hosted Lymm at Marl Pits on Sunday, knowing that the visitors were the reigning Cheshire champions and previous results showed that they had been giving out heavy defeats to most teams they play for several years.
When the game got under way, Lymm fielded the kick-off and started to show their class from the outset, moving the ball around and breaking through to score within two minutes. However, the Rossendale lads went straight back at them, and played the next five minutes in the Lymm half, eventually forcing a knock on and a scrum to Dale.
The Rossendale pack shunted Lymm backwards at the scrum, before peeling off to form a driving maul that covered ten metres up field, before recycling and driving again up to within one metre of the try line. Unfortunately, as the maul collapsed, Rossendale were adjudged to have knocked on, giving Lymm a scrum five metres from their line. Again, the Dale pack got the upper hand and won the scrum against the head.
Idrees Nazir picked up the ball and drove towards the line, but was brought down just short when Hadley Newell, pounced on the ball and drove over for a try. James Willetts converted to allow Dale to briefly take the lead.
