COLNE United have set their sights on getting back up to Division One at the first attempt – and they are going about it the right way.
The Bullholme Playing Fields-based side currently sit on top of Division Two following a slender 1-0 victory over Waddington at the weekend.
United, who were founded in 1977 and one of Colne’s oldest amateur football teams, are top on goal difference with Prairie United also on 18 points after they thumped Worsthorne 9-1.
Colne are sporting a new kit sponsored by Barrowford-based Denwa Communications.
Manager Marcus Duxbury, said: “We just want to say a huge thank you to Denwa for the donation, which has allowed us to buy a brand new kit.
“As a voluntary team with limited money, sponsorship like this goes a long way to protecting the club’s future for another few years.”
AFC Darwen, who of only two teams to have beaten Colne United this season, are just outside the two automatic promotion places after winning an eight-goal thriller at Barnoldswick Town.
Rishton United are also doing well and their 4-1 win at Peel Park also seems them in the promotion mix.
In Division One, both leaders Ivy FC and second-placed Rimington, both on 21 points, were out of action giving he chasing pack the cut the deficit.
Rock Rovers did just that but Mill Hill failed to take full advantage.
Rovers ran out 7-1 winners against Stacksteads to move within six points of the top team.
However, Mill Hill were held to a 2-2 draw at struggling Fenicowles and Pleasington and are a further point behind in fourth place.
Bottom of the table Langho picked up their first of the season, winning 2-1 at Burnley Belvedere and Enfield and Read United fought out a 2-2 draw.
Ivy and Rimington return to action this weekend.
Reigning champions Ivy go to Barrowford Celtic while Rimington play host to Enfield.
Read United Reserves had their shooting boots on as they league leaders beat rock bottom Barrowford Celtic 20-0.
Second-placed Whinney Hill were also among the goals as they beat Waddington 7-2.
Rimington and Langho are in the title mix after they both won at the weekend.
Rimington won 4-1 at Mill Hill while Langho enjoyed a 2-1 home win over Feniscowles and Pleasington.
Ossie St Mary’s and Enfield drew 2-2 while Rock Rovers beat Stacksteads SJ in a nine goal thriller, eventually winning 5-4.
