IT was a good weekend for Blackburn Northern Hockey Club with four of the five teams in action all winning.
The Men’s First team made the short trip to local rivals Preston Thirds where Gaz Makin and Rob Blackburn were facing their former club.
But there was no old pals act as the pair help Northern to a convincing 6-2 victory – with Makin among the goal scorers.
Preston started the game stronger with quick-fire passing and movement causing Blackburn some early problems.
But Blackburn soon took control when Dawid Wieczorek scored with a drag flick.
A second arrived soon after when Stuart Grant scored his first of the season after some great team work.
Wieczorek fired home his second and Blackburn’s third soon after.
Preston started the second strongly but Blackburn weathered the storm and added a fourth goal, to Makin converting a smartly operated short corner.
Grant then grabbed his second of the campaign with a pinpoint strike into the bottom corner to make it five.
Substitute Jack Caton scored Nothern’s sixth goal.
Blackburn Seconds looked to pick themselves back up after a dogged display last time out against Lytham and it was going to be a tough task as they faced a ridged Windermere side.
Andit was the away side who broke the deadlock first punishing the Blackburn defence after some excellent movement and skill.
But Blackburn were back on level terms just before the break when James Ruane scored with afinished deliciously first time effort.
Blackburn nabbed the winner in the second half when from junior James Parkinson found Ruane in the box who calmly finished.
Clitheroe and Blackburn Ladies Firsts came from a goal down to beat Preston Ladies Firsts 3-1.
Jill Middleton scored a wonderful equaliser before forward Anna Leigh beat three Preston players to drive in to the area and hit an unstoppable strike to put the home team 2-1 up. And Steph Teece made it 3-1 with a powerful penalty flick.
Clitheroe and Blackburn Ladies Seconds beat their Longridge countrparts 2-0 with Angela Allen and Emma Litton scoring the goals.
The Ladies Thirsd lost 4-0 to Pendle Forest Seconds in the cup while an Under 15s Mixed team narrowly lost 7-6 against Blackpool Boys.
