It was the perfect weekend for us. We couldn’t have asked for anything more with two 8-1 wins.
We had two quite convincing wins and we only conceded twice over the two games, we were very good this weekend.
We knew it was going to be tough on Saturday away at the Sheffield Spartans.
They were coming in off the back of two good wins against Solway and Whitley so we knew they were going to be confident but we came out flying.
The preparation was a lot better than the last time we were in Sheffield, we had a few little hiccups, but we dealt with that, put it to the back of our minds and stuck to playing hockey, and we were three or four up at the end of the first period.
The Billingham game was a great result.
They are going to be one of our biggest challengers, we beat them 10-2 last time but we know they are capable of putting chances away if we gave them any, but we shut them out and we didn’t let them play, our defensive zone was very strong, we didn’t give them anything.
They couldn’t live with us, as I’ve said previously if we play to the standard we can do there isn’t a team that can keep up with us, and we were definitely on our game this weekend.
We’ve had a couple of comments that we are a one-line team with Daniel Brittle and Luke Brittle, but I don’t think that is fair, every member of the team is doing a job.
It’s a team at the end of the day but we brought Luke in to score goals and that is what he is doing.
We’ve got EPL side Manchester Phoenix again this weekend, but it is at ours this time. We’re hoping to give them more of a game this time after we lost 12-5 to Manchester, but at our place I think we’re capable of making it a closer game.
We’ve got a few things to work on this week that have come up from the weekend and it should be a good test.
On the last two occasions we have played an EPL side we’ve come back to the league games the following week and absolutely smashed it.
There has been talk around the league of cup games doing sides at our level no favours, but speaking to our lads we love playing them and it’s good to play them in, you get that extra experience and learn a few things.
