Blackburn 100 Furness 0
BLACKBURN did their points difference the world of good as they went try crazy against a depleted Furness side on Saturday and racked up a century of points at Ramsgreave Drive.
Dino Radice’s side scored a total of 16 tries in the North Lancs/Cumbria match which was halted early to put Furness out of their misery.
Matt Hughes top scored with four tries with Richard Maudsley scoring a hat-trick while Sam Morgan helped himself to 18 individual points kicking nine of the 14 conversions he took.
It was one-way traffic from first minute to last, from the moment Matt Hughes raced on to Marc Maher’s angled chip to scored the opening try after just five minutes.
Morgan proved he had his kicking boots on, converted from out wide.
Jake Maher twisted over the line soon after for the first of his brace while another double try scorer, Mark Briggs touched down after keeping control of the ball at the back of the scrum.
Hughes ran in his second of what was now obviously a one-sided encounter after good work from Craig Aikman and Rob Melling.
A wayward Furness penalty failed to find touch and Melling gathered, broke through the defence and Maudsley scored in the corner.
Morgan added another superb kick from the touchline.
Jake Maher broke from his own half to score Blackburn’s sixth try and Maudsley scored his second and Burn’s seventh but only after Nick King was held up just short of the line.
The home side clocked up a half century of points just before the break when Luke Cunningham hacked the ball on and touched down. The second half was about who would complete their hat-trick first and it was Hughes who again benefited from some good work by Aikman.
Marc Maher then followed in the try-scoring footsteps of his brother, scoring twice in quick succession to keep the scoreboard ticking over.
He was then instrumental in the next try, finding Morgan who, in turn, fed Maudsley who darted in for his third try.
Morgan again added the extras – his ninth and final conversion.
Alex Evans teed up Hughes for his fourth try with Jake Maher taking over kicking duties.
Hughes nearly had a fifth but opted to pass inside to Anton Garcia who got in on the scoring act.
And the magical 100 mark was brought up by Cunningham who scored Blackburn’s 16th and final try of the match.
