Todmorden table tennis player Megan Shackleton will be hoping to finish the international season on a high next week when she will be one of ten young GB athletes competing in the Cote d’Azure 2014 International Para table tennis tournament in Hyères les Palmiers, France (October 23-26).
“I’ve been doing a lot of training and it has all been leading up to this last tournament of the season so I’m really excited and hoping things will go my way,” said Shackleton, who won her first individual medal at the Romania International Open in June.
“I’ve been working a lot on my movement and making sure I’m ready for all the balls - improving my reactions and my technique as well. It would be nice to get another medal in a factor 20 but as long as I’ve played to the best of my ability whatever the outcome I’m sure I’ll be happy.”
The 15 year old class 4 player is the youngest member of the GB Performance Squad and has taken further inspiration from the team’s recent success at the World Championships in China from which team mate Will Bayley returned as World champion.
“When you train with people like Will and they become world champion it’s inspiring knowing that could be you one day.”
