IT WAS billed as a man against boy contest and it was the youngster from Burnley who came out on top.
What 19-year-old Aaron Hayden lacked in experience, he more than made up for in ring craft and power as he proved to be just too good for 34-year-old Steve Royle.
Not only did the Roche Boxing Club fighter have to cope with Royle’s ring knowledge, he also had to contend with a rowdy Barrow in Furness criowd in what was a battle between two fighters defending unbeaten records.
Hayden knew he had the crowd against him but by the end of the contest the youngster had schooled the veteran, winning every round – having to dig deep and showing great heart taking some heavy shots.
Hayden has had a busy couple of weeks, fighting twice in 14 days but winning both fights He is back in action on November 7 where he boxes on Fox ABC show in Moston.
Coach Brian Roche said: “Aaron has a massive future ahead of him he wants it and shows good dedication to the game he is one to watch around these areas."
