ACCRINGTON Stanley were unable to secure revenge against former play-off foes Stevenage as they were beaten in League Two this afternoon.
Stanley were facing Stevenage for the first time since losing to Graham Westley's side in the play-off semi finals in 2011 but fell behind inside the opening minute at Broadhall Way as Chris Whelpdale found the net.
The Reds - handing a debut to Finland international keeper Jesse Joronen, signed on loan from Fulham - were level in the 19th minute as Lee Molyneux cut inside and fired into the bottom corner for his first goal since returning to the club for a third spell.
But Stevenage claimed victory as Charlie Lee struck the winner three minutes into the second half, finding the top corner from Chris Beardsley's pass.
Stanley: Jesse Joronen, Nicky Hunt, Tom Aldred, Rob Atkinson, Dean Winnard, Andy Procter, Luke Joyce, John O’Sullivan, Sean Maguire (Shay McCartan 64), Lee Molyneux (Anthony Barry 85), James Gray (Marcus Carver 78). Subs not used: Luke Simpson, Josh Windass, Will Hatfield, Piero Mingoia.
