CORRY Evans today returns to Blackburn Rovers a history maker.

The midfielder was part of the Northern Ireland team that sent shockwaves throughout Europe by beating Greece in their own backyard on a famous night in Piraeus on Tuesday.

The 2-0 win, secured by goals from Derby County winger Jamie Ward and Norwich City’s former Burnley frontman Kyle Lafferty, ensured Michael O’Neill’s men made it three wins on the spin.

It is the first time that Northern Ireland, who are 57 places lower than Greece in the FIFA world rankings in 71st, have kicked off a qualifying campaign with a hat-trick of successive victories.

And it leaves them sitting pretty at the top of their Euro 2016 qualifying table.

Evans, who was played on the right side of midfield against Greece, has always maintained he believes Northern Ireland can make it to a European Championship finals for the first time in the country’s history.

“We’ve got a half decent chance this time around,” Evans told the Lancashire Telegraph last month.

“There’s no real big name in our group, they are good nations but they are not the likes of Spain, Germany and France.

“We know that two definitely qualify from the group this time around so there’s a big incentive for us to do well.

“Hopefully we can come out at the end of it having qualified and go on to play in the Euros, which would be something special.”

Evans will this morning report back to Brockhall to prepare for Rovers’ Championship clash at Ipswich Town on Saturday.

The 24-year-old sat out the 0-0 Ewood Park draw with Huddersfield Town before the international break through suspension after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign in the 2-0 defeat at Rotherham United.

Rovers have sold around 300 tickets for the Ipswich match.

Supporters intending to make the long trek to Portman Road are advised to buy their tickets in advance as, while they will remain on sale on the day, they will rise by £2.50 for adults, seniors, students and U20s, and £1 for U16s.

Advance tickets cost £32.50 for adults, £23 for seniors and students, £22 for U20s, and £11.50 for U16s.

Meanwhile, Rovers have been handed an initial allocation of 1,116 tickets for the trip to Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, November 8 (3pm).

Tickets, which cost £30 for adults, £22 for over 65s, £15 for U18s, and £8 for U10s, go on sale to season ticket holders from tomorrow.

Any remaining tickets will go on open sale from Thursday, October 23.
