Tommy Hannan is this year’s Mick Hibbert Trophy winner. The semi-finals and final where held at Longshaw SSC where the late Mick Hibbert was a long time stalwart.
The semi final draw was made on the night and the first match threw together friends and former team mates Tommy Hannan and Andy Lancaster.
A fist pumping Lancaster seemed pleased with the draw but his pleasure was short lived.
Hannan took the opener comfortably with a nice break of 55 and that was it. Lancaster just couldn’t get going and was whitewashed 3-0. The other semi threw together the vastly improved Darwen youngster Jake Loftus and Jimmy Brookens.
This one didn’t really hit the heights, neither player capitalising on the numerous chances they both had.
It was Loftus who stuck at it the better and emerged victorious by a rather flattering 3 frames to 1.
The final got off to a good start, Loftus taking the opener with a nice run of 48. Hannan is nothing if not persistent and he used his many years of experience to wear down the youngster and come out a convincing 3-1 winner. n CIU Champion Ricky Hardman eased his way to the final of the 3 Towns Singles Championship beating Greenfield’s Shaun Pendlebury in the semi final at Rishton Conservative Club. With both players struggling to read the table it was hardly a classic but Hardman stuck to his task well to take the match 2-0. He will meet the winner of the match between Sydney St Boyd Procter and Guide’s John Holding.
