AS we saw on Saturday, it’s a massive bonus when you’ve got players like Ben Marshall and Tom Cairney who can strike the ball with consistency from distance.
When you’ve got that it leads the opposition team to think, ‘we can’t sit on the edge of the box because we are allowing them to shoot’.

That means they have to press the midfield too and that is a difficult thing to do.
So it goes to show that when Blackburn press teams back, it opens up the gaps for their midfielders like Ben and Tom to get goals.
Now there’s no chance they are going to get 20 goals a season from distance.
That’s unrealistic.
But there’s no reason why they can’t be getting five or six season from there.
Of course you need goals coming from closer in and we’ll certainly get our fair share of those because we’ve got Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede.
But you need your midfielders to chip in as well and, if four of them can get six league goals each, that’s 24 goals and that could be around the third of the way to getting promotion, so it’s a good sign.
Blackburn should be going into tonight’s game against Derby with confidence after beating Wigan.
Wigan are a good side who have spent quite a bit of money in the market so to beat them convincingly was a good result.
And I think it showed the benefit of Blackburn really taking the game to teams, especially at Ewood.
We’ve got better attacking players than defending players and that’s why I believe if we sit back, we’ll lose a goal.
We might get back into the game at some point, like we did on Saturday, but we’ll still lose that goal.
So that’s why I think we should go on the offence from the first whistle, get our noses in front and then assess the game from there.
Don’t get me wrong, there has to be an element of caution, especially against a team as good as Derby.
But there’s no doubt that when we have a go at teams, we can beat them and score goals for fun.
