ONCE again, hysteria has set in after one defeat away from home against a good side.
The Twitter whinge machine was in full swing after the defeat at Wolves.
Yes, the result was disappointing, and the performance particularly in defence was below par.
But these are early days in a long season and our two defeats so far have come at the hands of sides who look like they will be up there come May.
Wolves have come up galvanised and ready to push on for consecutive promotions.
The fact they were in League One last season means nothing as they were definitely a side playing a league below their true ability.
They have come back up fighting and look like they will be a real force this season.
Rovers were without Markus Olsson, who was man of the match in the last game, and with no recognised left back to call on reserve right back Adam Henley had to fill in.
Sadly, some disappointing defensive displays added to a bad day at the office with the goals conceded coming as a result of our own sloppiness.
These are issues that need ironing out, and strengthening the defence with the likes of Shane Duffy are moves in the right direction.
Gary Bowyer can only work with the resources he has available and has had to cut his cloth accordingly.
For him to bring in a cash transfer in Duffy was music to the ears, and further proof Venky’s are committed to trying to get this football club back into the promised land.
I write this with still a few hours left before the transfer window closes, so our squad could look a whole lot healthier by the time it is published. I hope so.
One slightly disappointing move to come out of the transfer window was the loan departure of Jack O’Connell back to Rochdale.
By all accounts the young defender is the best of the current crop of trainees coming through the ranks but it seems he isn’t quite good enough for Bowyer to bring him fully into the first team fold.
With a lack of bodies, certainly in defence, you would have thought if he had any chance at breaking in, now would have been his time.
