I THINK you have to look at the draw in the opening game of the season against Cardiff as two points dropped.
As the away team they would certainly have been the happier of the two.
But that is not to say Rovers should not be pleased as they showed they can match a team which hopefully they will be up there contesting with come the end of the season.
Cardiff got their noses in front – it was a real sucker-punch after we had started reasonably well.
From then on it was clear they had done their homework as they sat back and let us have a go at them.
Rovers are a good counter-attacking side and they will hurt you. But if you sit back and let them come and try and create, it’s a little bit more difficult.
Some of the link up play between Rudy Gestede and Jordan Rhodes was fantastic in the first half, it was just unfortunate that it was all in front of the Cardiff back four rather than behind it.
The quality of the crossing wasn’t quite up to scratch – which is normal, you expect that in a first game – and of course the way we lost the goal was a disappointment because we switched off at a second ball at a free kick.
But credit to Blackburn, they stuck at it, stuck to their system and shape, and a fantastic goal from Tom Cairney got us back level and from there on I thought that they were there for the taking.
But, as I say, Cardiff came out second half and shut up shop and we had to readjust because of the loss of Matt Kilgallon.
And, after a good start to the second half, it became one of those games I class as a game of chess.
It was frustrating but certainly not the end of the world.
