Chorley’s Ryan Bennett narrowly missed on a place in tonight’s 100m backstroke final after recording the ninth quickest time in the semi finals.
Bennett, swimming for host nation Scotland having qualified on residency grounds, clocked 54.87secs but was edged out of the final line-up by Australia’s Ben Treffers who swam 54.60secs.
Bennett finished in fourth place in the first semi final, won by Josh Beaver of Australia in 5374secs, but crucially the second semi final – which included England’s Liam Tancock - was quicker with five swimmers booking their places in the final.
He had qualified for the semi finals after he finished third in yesterday morning’s heat in a time of 55.35 seconds – which was the 10th fastest time in the heats.
