LANCASHIRE players Sophie Lamb and county champion Hollie Muse are among the five so far selected for the England team which will defend the Girls’ Home Internationals at Donabate in Ireland on August 6-8.
The remaining three will be picked on the final day of the English girls’ championships next Thursday.
England have won the tournament for the past six years and Alison Hewson and Lamb were in last year’s winning team.
The other three are India Clyburn, Inci Mehmet and Muse and all five represented England in the recent European girls’ team championship.
Sixteen-year-old Lamb from Clitheroe successfully defended the girls’ title at the Fairhaven Trophies this year, with a record low score of nine-under par and was third overall in the mixed field. She was leading points scorer in England’s winning team at the 2013 Girls’ Home Internationals and represented GB&I in the junior Vagliano Trophy.
Muse, 14, from West Lancs, the youngest Lancashire ladies’ champion in history, was runner-up in the girls’ event at the Fairhaven Trophies and tied eighth at the St Rule Trophy at St Andrews.
She’s a past winner of the English U13 championship and won the Royal Birkdale ladies’ scratch trophy.
Clyburn, of Woodhall Spa, who is Lincolnshire champion and this season has been runner-up in the Critchley Salver, fifth in the Harder Hall Invitational in the USA and seventh in the Helen Holm Scottish stroke play.
Hewson, of Berkhamsted, won the Critchley Salver at Sunningdale and the U18 prize at the St Rule Trophy where she also helped England win the Nations Cup and fourth overall.
She was ninth in the English women’s amateur. Last year she was in the winning England team at the European Young Masters, won the Scottish U16 open stroke and the girls’ title at the Telegraph BMW Golf Championship.
Wentworth’s Mehmet was runner-up at last week’s English amateur and has amassed a series of other good results this season, including fourth place in the Portuguese championship and fifth in the Irish open stroke play.
