Chorley’s Ryan Bennett will bid for a place in the final of the men’s 100m backstroke tonight.
Bennett, swimming for host nation Scotland having qualified on residency grounds, came third in this morning’s heat in a time of 55.35 seconds.
That was good enough to see him into tonight’s semi-finals as the 10th fastest qualifier with Chris Walker-Hebborn heading the standings and Liam Tancock, who was in Bennett’s heat, qualifying fifth fastest.
With less than half a second separating him from eighth, 23-year-old Bennett can seriously target a spot in tomorrow’s final.
The semi-final action begins at 8.50pm.
