Clitheroe’s Eric Wallace and Sarah Varley were both on top form as they won the Salesbury Mixed Pairs bowling competiton from an entry of 32 pairs from around the area.
In the semi final, they overcame Salesbury’s own husband and wife team of Keith and Carolyn Dugdale by 21-12.
The other semi-final was a nailbiting affair between Ribblesdale Wanderers Gordon Dixon and Pat Holt and Dave and Pauline Ashworth from Lowerhouse – with the latter just getting home 21-20 after the Ribblesdale pair had failed to take a guilt-edged opportunity to win the game.
The final however was somewhat of an anti-climax with Eric leading well and Sarah playing superbly at the back, the Lowerhouse pair had no answer and the Clitheroe pair ran out comfortable winners at 21-5.
Competitors thanked all those who made the day a success including the greenkeeper, scorers, measurers and ladies in the kitchen with a special vote of thanks to competiton organiser Gary Evans.
The president of the club, Doreen Grimshaw, presented the prizes to the winners and Eric on a personal note, said it was especially pleasing to see Keith Dugdale back on the green and playing so well after his long illness.
