THE Grassroots Heroes Awards are back for a fourth year and it promises to be another year of tales of achievement and stories of hard work and commitment.
Following their launch in 2011, the Lancashire Telegraph has once again team up with sponsors United Utilities to celebrate and highlight all that is good in local amateur sport.
The awards are a chance for readers to nominate their local heroes and, in the last three years, hundreds of nominations have flooded in for the 10 categories.
The awards cover every aspect of sport at grassroots level; from the achievers to the hard workers, the medal and trophy winners to the unsung heroes.
The aim is to reward those people who contribute to much to the sporting community.
From team sports to individual pursuits, there are so many deserving causes out there.
We want to reward the talents of teams and individuals who have starred in their particular sport or those hard-working officials and behind-the-scenes committed, committee members whose hard work goes largely unrewarded.
East Lancashire has a rich and diverse sporting history, the fact that 20 different sports were featured in the last year’s shortlist goes someway to demonstrating just that.
So now is your chance to highlight all of those efforts, endeavours and tireless dedication.
Once again, there are 10 categories to choose from – including lifetime achievement, senior team of the year, junior team of the year, coach of the year, unsung hero, spirit of sport award, the people’s choice and junior sports personality and senior sports personality.
Kevin Young, editor of the Lancashire Telegraph said: “Sport is so important to the life of East Lancashire and these awards recognise all those who make such a valuable contribution.
“This is the fourth time we have held these awards and they go from strength to strength.
“They play an integral role, not just in the local sporting scene but the wider community as well.”
The awards ceremony will be held at Mytton Fold Hotel, Langho – the venue for the previous three events – at a date to be announce in January.
