FANS who soaked up the sunshine to watch East Lancashire seconds take on Ramsbottom on Sunday were served up a real treat as the runs flowed.
Ramsbottom, who are second in the Junior League, managed to come out on top against their fellow Lancashire Telegraph Trophy semi-finalists East Lancashire, in one of the matches of the season.
Dave Turner made 90, Max Wyn-Jones 49 not out and Nick Westhead 43 as East Lancashire piled up 296-6 from their 50 overs.
But any hopes they had of a routine win were dashed in quite remarkable fashion.
Father and son Ash and Tom Parkinson opened the innings as they chased an unlikely win at Alexandra Meadows.
Captain and former Tottington St John’s batsman Ash made 51 while son Tom, who has been a regular 12th man for the Ramsbottom Twenty20 side, made 73.
Then it was over to Matt Sutton, whose enthralling 89 not out took Rammy over the line for a remarkable win with five wickets in hand and one ball to spare.
