LOWERHOUSE have lost one of their talented rising stars after all-rounder Jack Edgar decided to leave the Neville Gee Recruitment Ground for Great Harwood.

The 18-year-old, who made his debut for the House midway through the 2012 season, exploded onto the scene last year and made a brilliant 74 in the derby win at Burnley last May.

He went on to score just over 400 runs across all forms of the game during a productive 2013 campaign and started this season in similar form with a classy 54 on the opening day against Church.

But he had started to struggle with the bat in recent weeks and has barely bowled for the Foster’s Lancashire League leaders and eventually lost his place in the team.

And while he has impressed in the seconds the likes of Declan Bailey have moved in front of him in the Lowerhouse pecking order and star all-rounder Jonathan Finch is due back from injury.

That means limited opportunities and he has decided to move back to Great Harwood, a club where he spent time as a junior.

Edgar has moved to The Cliffe rather than to Enfield, a club where his father Calvin played in the mid-90s, and he has moved into the Ribblesdale League at a good time with Harwood flying high in third place and looking to mount a sustained title challenge under skipper Russell Whalley.

Lowerhouse secretary Frank Entwistle says he is sorry to see Edgar go but believes the move is a good one for the youngster at this stage of his career.

“He is a really good player and I am sorry to see him move on,” said Entwistle.

“Because we have such a strong squad and there are only so many places competition is tough and Jack has found himself in the seconds.

“He is too good for that level of cricket and he is at an age where he needs to be playing first team cricket.

“He is going to a good club at Great Harwood and I am sure he will do a terrific job for them with both bat and ball.”

Meanwhile, Lowerhouse are close to selling out their first supporters’ bus for the Worsley Cup semi-final at Rawtenstall next month.

They expect to be backed by a huge following in the July 13 tie.
