LOWERHOUSE booked their place in the second round of the LCB Lancashire Cup yesterday as they brushed aside the challenge of Heyside.
And there was also celebration for cross-town rivals Burnley, as they finally registered a first win of the season, seeing off Adlington at Turf Moor to make their progress into the next round.
The House, who have started to find their form in the Foster’s Lancashire League after a sluggish start, went straight at the Saddleworth League side from the off at the Neville Gee Recruitment Ground and reduced them to 15-2 as Matt Walker claimed two wickets in two balls.
And when former Colne professional Shadley van Schalkwyk fell it became 15-3.
That was soon 25-5 and 27-6 as an early finished loomed before Heyside staged something of a recovery to reach 127 all out with Joey Hawke claiming three wickets to polish the tail off.
Lowerhouse were in a spot of bother at 30-3 with Jack Edgar, and Paddy and Joe Martin back in the pavilion as van Schalkwyk showed the league what it’s missing with two of the wickets.
But Matt Walker and pro Cobus Pienaar saw them home with more than 20 overs to spare as they played classy innings with Walker finishing on 49 not out.
It was also straightforward for Burnley as they beat Bolton Association outfit Adlington by 80 runs.
Professional Chris Holt had a good day for Bharat Tripathi’s men as he made 80 in the victory, his highest score of the season.
