BRENT Peters has urged his Bacup and Rossendale Borough side to keep moving away from the North West Counties Premier Division relegation zone tonight.
Borough climbed out of the bottom two with a 3-2 home win over St Helens Town on Saturday and now entertain third-placed Glossop North End hoping to move six points clear of the drop zone with only three games remaining.
Second bottom Alsager Town lost at home to Ashton Athletic on Monday night.
Borough boss Peters said: “It was a big relief to move out of the bottom two.
“What we need to do now is get something out of this game against Glossop as well. That will really put the pressure on the sides below.
“We’ve been playing quite well. To be honest we’ve played pretty well in most games all season, as daft as that sounds with the position we’re in.
“I’m not really worried about the opposition, I’ve been more worried about our players doing something rash. The league position brings pressure for the players.
“It just seems whenever we have made a mistake this season we have been punished for it. People have made wrong decisions at times.
“On Saturday we were magnificent and then one of our lads played a square pass across own area, which put his team-mates under pressure and St Helens scored, then it was edgy at the end of the game.”
Borough play their final league game of the season on April 26 and have had the rare luxury of only two midweek games in the last three weeks of the campaign this time around.
Often in the past mid-season postponements have seen Peters’ side having to play four or even five matches a week at the end of the campaign to catch up.
Peters, though, admits even a lack of fixtures has brought its own issues.
“We’re sort of conditioned to it now, we’re used to it at Bacup,” he said of the traditional fixture pile-up.
“A couple of weeks ago we played on the Monday, the Wednesday and the Saturday, and that was a tough week, so I gave the players a week off after that.
“But one or two players ended up playing Sunday League games and this week we’ve got a couple of players playing in Manchester cup games on Friday, so I’ll have to analyse my selection carefully.”
