CHORLEY ace Ryan Bennett today turns his attention to the 200m freestyle after missing out on a place in the final of the 100m backstroke at the British Championship yesterday.
Bennett finished sixth in his semi-final last night having progressed from his heat but his time of 55.94 seconds was not enough to put him among the top eight swimmers.
Chris Walker-Hebborn qualified fastest for today’s final just ahead of Liam Tancock.
Bennett, who trains at the University of Stirling, will be joined by his university team-mate Josh Walsh, from Blackburn, in this morning’s 200m freestyle heats.
Both will be expected to qualify for tonight’s semi-finals as they target places in England’s Commonwealth Games squad. The championships double up as the trials for this summer’s games in Glasgow.
Bennett is also swimming the 100m butterfly and 200m backstroke in the championships which conclude on Tuesday while Walsh’s main focus is the 100m freestyle which begins tomorrow.
