JOE Garner and former Burnley star Graham Alexander are among those who have been chosen to act as pallbearers for Sir Tom Finney’s funeral today.
Blackburn-born Garner, who started his career at Rovers, is a key part of Preston North End’s current squad and is a lifelong fan of the Lilywhites.
Alexander, now manager of Fleetwood Town, played at Preston in two spells either side of four years with Burnley.
Former Blackburn Rovers and Preston keeper Alan Kelly is another who will act as a pallbearer along with North End boss Simon Grayson, who also played for Rovers.
Current Preston captain John Welsh and former player Ian Bryson complete the list, which was chosen by the club at the request of the Finney family.
They will carry Finney’s coffin into Preston Minster. Jimmy Armfield and Tommy Docherty will both speak at the funeral, which takes place at 1pm.
Burnley will be officially represented at the funeral by former player and club president Jimmy McIlroy and ex-Claret Colin McDonald.
Rovers will be represented by managing director and former Preston chairman Derek Shaw, Rovers legend Bryan Douglas and Val Clayton – wife of former Rovers player Ronnie Clayton.
The cortege is due to pass Deepdale at around 12.15pm.
