Happy New Year indeed!
We certainly kicked off 2007 in style with the win at Wrexham, and it was no more than we deserved, despite the fact we had five teenagers on the bench and only 12 available professionals to choose from with suspensions and injuries.
That's been a familiar scenario over the last few weeks but, even though we've been stretched, we've known the team has been capable of getting better results than the ones we've had. We've only needed a bit of luck and a little bit of belief here and there.
I hoped it would happen against Mansfield on Saturday, and I'm pretty sure if we were winning at half-time the referee wouldn't have called the game off. But as soon as the backpass was made and Mansfield equalised, it made his mind up because, at 1-1, it's an easier decision to make.
I didn't think the pitch was any different for the second half as it was for the first. In fact, it was probably better. There's no denying the conditions were difficult, but we've played in a lot worse than that. Remember Aldershot away last season?
I was disappointed we didn't get to carry on because I'm convinced that we would have won that game.
But, in the end, we didn't have too long to wait before we ended our poor run, and we got what we deserved at Wrexham.
The conditions were difficult there too. Although the pitch looked good, when we walked out on it at the end it was sticky and had cut up a lot.
Nevertheless, it didn't stop us putting in a very good performance, and I think we could have scored a lot more to win more convincingly.
You can imagine what I was thinking when they equalised on the stroke of half-time. Here we go again!' It was another horrendous mistake that led to their goal. But rather than slate them at half-time, we built them up. We are past-masters now at making mistakes. It had happened, so we told them to make sure it was the only mistake we made in the game.
The second half was tight and didn't open up until the last 10-15 minutes. Thankfully it was us that got the goals and it was good to see David Brown and Paul Mullin both getting on the scoresheet.
But we've got the win we wanted, and with Phil Edwards and Andy Mangan available after suspension, we're full of confidence.
